About Me

Hello! I’m Kamaile DeLong, and I received my bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Wyoming in May, 2021. I am passionate about animals and their behavior, and I am pursuing a career that allows me to investigate how animals interact with their environment. I am especially interested in examining how captive settings affect the behavior and welfare of domesticated and undomesticated pets.

Laughing Dog Farm took me on as a professional dog trainer in May of 2023, and I am excited to expand my understanding of animal behavior with them. I am currently taking new dog training, house-sitting, and pet-sitting clients. See my Pet Services page for more information.

I am currently working at the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (Entomology & Nurseries Industries) as the State Pest Survey Coordinator and Apiary Specialist. I am hoping to work with a researcher at New Mexico State University to create a master’s project investigating how bees (either native or managed) interact with the world around them.

I am also currently working with the Tronstad Lab (with the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database) to wrap up work on my undergraduate research project: an investigation of how the diversity of tall forb communities affects local bee community composition. For more information about tall forb communities, please see the resources I have compiled on my Tall Forb Community page. Thanks to the Wyoming Research Scholars Program and the Wyoming NASA Space Grant Consortium for making my undergraduate research project possible!

While I may not know for sure what comes next in my adventure, I’m excited to explore the possibilities as they come my way!
